Excerpt from El Niño de la Bola The next twelve years find Alarcón actively engaged in politics. Owing, however, to the instability of his political beliefs, he achieved no position of importance. He was a deputy to the Cortes in 1865, 1869, 1870 and 1871, and in 1876 he was elected Senator. In 1875 he entered the Council of State and was decorated in the same year with the Gran Cruz of the Order of Isabella the Catholic.
